Mumbai: Karan Johar’s highly anticipated romantic comedy, “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” made an impressive start at the domestic box office, grossing ₹11.10 crore on its opening day, as reported by trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The film received significant traction from multiplex audiences, while Tier 2 and Tier 3 centres showed relatively lower performance. To achieve substantial numbers, the movie’s success in “mass pockets” becomes crucial in the upcoming days, according to Taran Adarsh.
Taran Adarsh emphasized that for the film to flourish, it needs substantial growth on Day 2 and Day 3, not just in metros but also in mass pockets. “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” caters to both the youth and families and their substantial turnout will significantly impact the film’s overall box office numbers.
#RockyAurRaniKiiPremKahaani hits double digits on Day 1… Day 1 biz is clearly lopsided… The contribution from major centres [mainly multiplexes] is good, but Tier 2 and Tier 3 centres did not perform to optimum capacity… Fri ₹ 11.10 cr. #India biz.#RRKPK needs to witness… pic.twitter.com/0YESqdpQt9

Despite opening to mixed reviews, with some critics finding the screenplay inconsistent, the performances by the star-studded cast, including Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, Tota Roy Chowdhury, and Churni Ganguly, were lauded.
The movie marks the on-screen reunion of Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, who last appeared together in Zoya Akhtar’s “Gully Boy.” Moreover, this film also represents Karan Johar’s return to directing after a seven-year gap since his last film, “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.”
The film’s success now hinges on word-of-mouth and the crucial growth on Day 2, particularly in the afternoon and beyond.
