Cadbury Chocolates Being Recalled in UK Over “Rare” Listeria Disease Scare

London: Thousands of Cadbury products are being withdrawn from outlets all throughout the UK over concerns about listeria.

According to reports, customers who purchased items from these batches have been advised not to consume them and to return them for a refund. According to the Centres for Disease Control (CDC), listeria infection is a type of listeriosis that is typically brought on by consuming food that has been tainted with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. People over 65 and pregnant women are most at risk because the bacteria attack the immune system.

Customers are urged by the UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) to check the product expiration dates on their websites.

The FDA has issued a warning over the 75g chocolate desserts Crunchie, Daim, Flake, Dairy Milk Buttons, and Dairy Milk Chunks.

The ‘use-by’ dates that should be taken into consideration are May 17 for the Crunchie and Flake desserts and May 18 for everything else.

As a result of contamination concerns, grocery giant Muller is recalling specific chocolate batches, according to reports.

The FSA released a statement saying that Muller “has taken the precautionary step of recalling some batches of various Cadbury branded dessert products due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes.”

Listeriosis symptoms resemble flu symptoms. According to the CDC, they include fever, muscle discomfort or pain, chills, feeling or being unwell, and diarrhoea.

The health agency added that the listeria infection’s signs and symptoms differ based on the person afflicted and the area of the body affected.

Rarely, the infection may be more serious and result in life-threatening complications like meningitis. A pregnant woman who contracts listeriosis runs the risk of miscarrying.
