Pakistan Courts Reject 9 Bail Pleas of Imran Khan in Violent Protests Cases

Islamabad: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s bail petitions in connection with FIRs stemming from violent protests were rejected by local courts in Islamabad. The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) and Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Mohammad Sohail dismissed a total of nine bail petitions. The FIRs were filed against Imran Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), at various police stations in Islamabad.

The judge cited a Supreme Court verdict while rejecting Imran Khan’s bail extension. The cases against Khan were registered in different police stations of the federal capital, including Karachi Company, Ramna, Kohsar, Tarnool, and Secretariat.

ADSJ Sohail extended the interim bail of Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, in a case related to the alleged bogus receipt of Toshakhana gifts until September 7. Imran Khan’s arrest earlier this year triggered violent protests across the country, with his supporters allegedly attacking military installations.

Following a trial court’s decision, Imran Khan was imprisoned after being found guilty of concealing proceeds of Toshakhana gifts received during his tenure as prime minister from 2018 to 2022. As a result, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified him from holding public office for five years due to his conviction.
