Nepalese Mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa Sets World Record with 27th Everest Summit

Kathmandu: Nepalese mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa has set a new record by scaling Mount Everest for the 27th time, surpassing his own previous record for the highest number of ascents on the world’s tallest peak. On Wednesday, the 53-year-old accomplished this remarkable feat, reaching the 8,848.86-meter summit at 8:30 am, according to Nepal’s Department of Tourism.

Just three days prior, fellow Sherpa guide Pasang Dawa Sherpa had equalled Kami Rita’s record, ascending Mount Everest for the 26th time. However, Kami Rita swiftly regained his title for the most climbs of the renowned peak. Hailing from the Solukhumbu district in eastern Nepal, he first conquered Everest on May 13, 1994.

Working as a senior mountain guide at Seven Summit Treks, Kami Rita undertook the expedition with the support of the Kathmandu-based commercial adventure operator. In addition to his record-breaking achievements on Mount Everest, he has also successfully climbed numerous other 8,000-meter peaks in Nepal and abroad, including Mount K2, Mount Cho Oyu, Mount Lhotse, and Mount Manaslu.

These updates showcase both the remarkable achievements of mountaineers like Kami Rita Sherpa and the risks associated with such extreme endeavours.
