Maldivian Prez Plans to Visit India; 2 of His Ministers Resign Over Jibe At PM Modi

New Delhi: Mohamed Muizzu, Maldivian President, will travel to India on an official visit “very soon”, said Heena Waleed, the chief spokesperson at the President’s Office.

This announcement was made by her on the same day when two junior ministers, suspended in January for derogatory statements against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, resigned from the Maldives government.

Heena said that exact date for the India trip of Muizzu had not been finalized. The two sides were discussing a date, which was of convenience to the leaders of both countries, a news portal reported.

Muizzu is known for his pro-China stance. He visited New Delhi on June 9 to attend Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. Unlike his predecessors, who made their first visit to India after assuming office, Muizzu travelled to Turkiye and China for his first state visits in January.
