Pakistan Court Acquits Nawaz Sharif’s Sons In 3 Corruption Cases

Islamabad: An anti-corruption court in Pakistan has acquitted Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, the sons of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in three corruption cases. These cases, linked to the Panama Papers scandal, had been looming over the Sharif family since 2018.

Initially declared proclaimed offenders for failing to participate in investigations, the brothers were abroad while their father faced legal proceedings. Although Nawaz Sharif was convicted in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia corruption cases, he was acquitted in the Flagship case.

Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan in October, following his self-exile in London, marked a turning point. His successful appeal led to acquittals in the aforementioned cases, prompting his sons to return to Pakistan to face charges.

After a suspension of their absconder status and bail, Hassan and Hussain Nawaz appeared before the accountability court, seeking acquittal, which was granted on Tuesday by Judge Nasir Javed Rana.
