Pet Cat Dies After Thrown Into Snow from Moving Train in Russia, Over 3Lakh Demand Dismissal of Conductor

More than 300,000 people have signed a petition urging for the dismissal of a Russian train conductor who threw a pet cat off a moving train, believing it was a stray. The cat died in the outside sub-zero temperature.

On January 11, the white and ginger tom cat, known as Twix, from its carrier on a train travelling between Yekaterinburg and St. Petersburg. When it was found by the conductor, she threw the cat outside the train when it stopped in the town of Kirov.

Irked by her action hundreds of people searched for the cat in the sub-zero temperatures, which was found dead on January 20. The cat died because of the severe cold and suffered also several suspected animal bites.

Russians were outraged and social media was flooded with reactions denouncing the action of the conductor, who threw the cat into the snow in temperatures of -30 Celsius.

On Sunday a petition calling for criminal charges to be brought against the conductor gathered more than 3,00,000 signatures.

In a statement, Russian state train operator RZhD said that it “sincerely regretted” the death of Twix, and vowed that it would change its rules on how employees should approach unaccompanied animals.
