US President Supports Same-Sex Marriages

US Senate passed a landmark bill in support of same-sex marriage. Welcoming it President Joe Biden on Tuesday said, “Love is love, and Americans should have the right to marry the person they love.”

Now this bill will be sent to the House of Representatives, then it will be sent for Joe Biden’s signature.

The passing of the bill is hailed as a “momentous step forward for greater justice for LGBTQ Americans.”

Since 2015, same-sex relations in the US are protected by a Supreme Court order. But after the court overturned the longstanding ruling protecting the right to abortion in June, there were fears that in the future same-sex marriages may be termed illegal by the American courts.

The bill passed on Tuesday repeals previous American legislation defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman. The bill also applies to inter-racial marriages.
