“Found It Paramount To Speak Up”: Israeli Filmmaker Defends Himself After “Vulgar” Slur On The Kashmir Files

Goa: A day after landing in trouble for his unprecedented criticism of The Kashmir Files, Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid has come out with a justification defending his statement.

Responding to the magnanimous public outrage over his purported statement, Lapid said that he found it paramount to speak about it.

He furthered that he was startled to see the “fascist features” that the movie portrayed.

Lapid spoke to a local news channel and said, “I knew that this was an event that is terribly connected to the country, and everyone stands there and praises the government. It is not an easy position, because you are a guest, I am the president of the jury here, and you are treated very nicely. And then you come and attack the festival. There was apprehension, and there was discomfort. I didn’t know what the dimensions would be, so I did it with some apprehension. Yes, I spent the day apprehensive. Let’s put it this way: I’m happy to be on my way to the airport now.”

Whereas the web was full of resentment, Lapid mentioned that some people thanked him for speaking up. In countries that are increasingly losing the ability to speak the truth, someone needs to speak up.”
