‘Voice of Sorting Hat’ Leslie Phillips Passed Away at 98

New Delhi: British Actor Leslie Phillips, who voiced the sorting hat in Harry Potter, passes away at the age of 98. He died following a long illness.

Leslie’s agent, Jonathan Lloyd, informed about his death. Leslie passed away on November 7.

The news of Leslie’s death has shocked his fans.

Leslie Phillips was born on April 20, 1924. Phillips began acting in the 1930s. He made his film debut in 1938 in Lassie from Lancashire and went on to appear in hundreds of theatrical and TV roles, before taking on his role in the Harry Potter films toward the end of his career.

He worked in more than 2000 films in his career. Apart from films, he also showed his talent on TV and radio. He also appeared in several of the British Carry on Comedies of the 20th century.

He was nominated for a BAFTA and won a British Independent Film Award for his role in Hanif Kurieshi’s Venus in 2006. He also received the London Critics Circle’s Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film in 2007.
