Xi Jinping To Continue As Chinese President For A Record Third Term

Beijing: Following a weeklong conference in which he solidified his influence over the ruling Communist Party, official media claimed that Xi Jinping won a third term as China’s president on Sunday.

In a ballot held behind closed doors, President Xi Jinping was chosen to serve as the party’s general secretary for another five-year term, making it almost guaranteed that he will be elected president at the annual session of China’s National People’s Congress in March.

After being elected to an unprecedented third term as China’s president, Xi Jinping promised to “work tirelessly.”

At Beijing’s Enormous Hall of the People, he thanked the entire Party for their confidence in him and pledged to “work earnestly in the fulfilment of our duties to prove worthy of the great faith of our Party and our people.”

China’s military chief, Xi Jinping, was reappointed on Sunday, according to official media, following his historic election to a third term as president.

Local media reported that Xi Jinping was chosen at the first plenary meeting of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and that he “was also named chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission at the session.”
