Zookeeper Mauled To Death By Lion He Cared Since Birth in Nigeria

At a Nigerian university, a zookeeper who was taking care of lions for almost a decade was killed by one of the big cats. According to the BBC, the deceased, Olabode Olawuyi was in charge of the zoo at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

On Monday, while he was feeding the big cats, one of the lions attacked and killed him.

Olawuyi, a veterinary technologist has been taking care of the lions since they were born on the university campus about nine years back.

It is suspected that the attack was caused by “human error” after the zookeeper forgot to lock the door after feeding the lions.

In a similar incident in India, a man was mauled to death by a lion at the Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park in Tirupati, when he jumped into a lion’s enclosure by climbing over a 25-foot high fence.
