37 Killed as 3 Buses Collide and Burn in Nigeria

At least 37 persons were killed when three buses collided with each other near Maiduguri city of Nigeria on Tuesday.  The buses caught fire after the collision, which increased the death toll.

According to a Federal Road Safety Corps sector commander in Nigeria, excessive speed caused the accident. One of the buses lost control and skidded off the path to hit another one. Initially, two passenger buses had a head-on collision and burst into flames. A few seconds later a third bus crashed into them.

Most victims were burnt alive on the spot. Their bodies were beyond recognition.

A mass burial of the victims of this accident will be held on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, 17 others were killed when their bus crashed into a truck near Nigeria’s capital Abuja.
