ISKCON Elephant Kills Mahout in West Bengal’s Nadia

Kolkata: An elephant kept by the ISKCON in Nadia’s Mayapur in West Bengal killed a mahout on Saturday evening. The deceased was 27-year-old Samudra Rava from Assam.

Another mahout, who was sitting on the elephant, fractured his leg as he jumped to the ground to save Samudra.

Bishnupriya, the 16-year-old female elephant, crushed the ill-fated mahour by pressing him to a wall.

According to the ISKCON officials, they had sought help from the forest and animal resources development department to ascertain the reason for the elephant’s violent behaviour.

Forest department officials said the elephant’s violent behaviour could be a result of hormonal changes.

Bishnupriya and Laxmipriya are two elephants kept by the ISKCON in Mayapur for ritual purposes.
