BJP Planning to Field Cricketer Mohammad Shami in Coming Lok Sabha Polls

New Delhi: The BJP is planning to field star cricketer Mohammad Shami from West Bengal in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, reported India Today TV quoting sources.

Shami represents Bengal and plays domestic cricket for the state.

As per reports, the BJP leaders have already approached Shami with the proposal, but the cricketer has not yet made any decision.

At present, Shami is recovering from a surgery. PM Modi wished him a speedy recovery.

Shami hasn’t played any international match since India’s ODI World Cup campaign, when he took 24 wickets in seven matches.

Following the loss in the World Cup finals against Australia, PM Modi individually met all the players and praised Mohammad Shami for his sensational performance in the tournament and he also hugged the Bengal cricketer.

Shami also met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced to construct a cricket stadium in Shami’s native village in Amroha. All this speak of Shami’s proximity with the BJP.

As per the India Today TV report, Shami is being proposed to contest from the Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency, which has the Sandeshkhali village within its limits. Shami’s candature can also help the BJP garner support of the minority community.
