ECI to Install GPS Tracking System In Vehicles Used for Election Process in West Bengal

Kolkata: The Election Commission has decided to install GPS location tracking system in all vehicles that will be used during the election process in West Bengal.

A letter in this regard has reached the poll officials. The GPS tracking system will be used to monitor the movement of EVMs and other polling materials from the distribution/dispersion centre and receipt centre (DCRC) to the polling station on the day before the elections. The GPS tracking devices will ensure that no tampering occurs during their transfer to the strong room after completion of polling.

The ECI has asked the administration to take prompt action regarding installation of the GPS trackers.

Meanwhile, the ECI appointed Joint Secretary in the School Education Department, Arnab Chatterjee as the Joint Chief Electoral Officer in West Bengal in place of Rahul Nath, an official order said.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal will start on April 19.
