ED Attaches Rs 3.4 Cr Assets of Bookie Anil Jaisinghani Involved in Extortion Attempt on Amruta Fadnavis

Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken action in a money laundering case involving Anil Jaisinghani, a bookie, and his daughter. Properties worth Rs 3.4 crore have been attached by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Anil Jaisinghani is accused of attempting to extort and blackmail Amruta Fadnavis, the wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The ED’s investigation revealed that Anil Jaisinghani was involved in cricket betting activities and had amassed a significant amount of money through fraudulent means. The probe agency has initiated proceedings to attach more of his properties.

Anil Jaisinghani had been evading the ED’s summons since 2015 and had not cooperated with the PMLA investigation, despite a non-bailable warrant issued against him. However, he was arrested by the ED on April 8, 2023, in connection with a money laundering case related to IPL betting. Searches were also conducted at his premises on June 9.

The officials filed a chargesheet against Anil Jaisinghani on June 6, 2023, before the PMLA Special Court in Ahmedabad.

In a separate case, Mumbai Police filed a chargesheet against Anil Jaisinghani and his daughter for extorting and blackmailing Amruta Fadnavis. Amruta alleged that Aniksha, Jaisinghani’s daughter, posed as a designer and gradually befriended her. Aniksha then reportedly convinced Amruta to use her political influence to conduct raids on bookies and offered help in dismissing false criminal cases against her father.

When Amruta cut contact, Anil Jaisinghani allegedly resorted to sharing edited videos with her, featuring Aniksha handling cash, to blackmail her. Jaisinghani demanded Rs 10 crore from Amruta based on these videos. Following a complaint by Devendra Fadnavis, Anil Jaisinghani, his cousin Nirmal, and his daughter were arrested on March 19.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Mumbai Police and ED, have taken action against Anil Jaisinghani subsequent to the filing of the FIR.
