Girl Student of IIT Guwahati Found Dead in Hotel Room After New Year Party

Guwahati: A girl student of BTech fourth-year at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in the Paltan Bazaar area of Guwahati.

According to police sources, the deceased was from Telangana. On December 31, she along with three other batchmates had gone for a party to the city’s Paltan Bazaar area, about 25 kilometres from the institute.

On January 1 morning, the girl identified as Aishwarya Pulluri was found dead under mysterious conditions. The reasons behind her death had not yet been ascertained.

These four students had booked two rooms in a hotel. They checked in after midnight. Besides her, another female and two male students had checked in at the hotel. According to the hotel staff, they were inebriated.

The next morning, the girl was found unconscious in the washroom by her friend. She was rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared her dead.

The deceased was a BTech fourth-year student in the Electronics and Communications department.

Meanwhile, IIT-Guwahati issued a statement saying, “It is with deep regret that IIT Guwahati shares the unfortunate news of the death of a student outside the campus on 31st December 2023. The police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.”
