Nitin Gadkari Unveils Plan for ‘Bahu Balli’ Fence to Prevent Cattle Accidents on Highways

New Delhi: The Central Government of India is considering the implementation of the Bahu Balli Cattle Fence along highways to address the issue of cattle causing dangerous accidents. Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, shared this plan on Twitter. The fence, which will be 1.20 meters high, will initially be installed on section 23 of NH-30 as a comprehensive solution.

Gadkari emphasized that the Bahu Balli Cattle Fence constructed using bamboo offers an effective and environmentally friendly alternative. The bamboo is treated with creosote oil and coated with HDPE, making it stronger than steel. The fence also has a Class 1 fire rating, ensuring safety. This initiative aligns with the principles of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, aiming to create sustainable highways and minimize harm to wildlife and cattle.

The installation of the Bahu Balli Cattle Fence will serve as a demonstration before the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Chhattisgarh. The government’s focus is to prevent accidents caused by cattle crossing roads, which pose risks to human life. By implementing this solution, they aim to ensure safer highways while considering environmental sustainability and wildlife conservation.
