India Asks Pakistan For Quick Action Against Persecutors Of Minority Groups

New Delhi: India has sought urgent action from Pakistan to swiftly bring to justice those responsible for the persecution of minorities there. Vandalism and degradation of places of religious worship belonging to minority communities in Pakistan have occurred repeatedly. These include the theft of a gold idol from the Sant Baba Jairamdas Samadhi Ashram in Sindh as well as the vandalism of the Gurudwaras Nankana Sahib and Shri Guru in Sindh, the Maharaja Ranjit Singh statue in Lahore, the Shiv Mandir in Mirpur Mathelo, and the Shir Mata Mandir in Karachi.

The Minister of State for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, stated that India has brought up all of these instances with Pakistan and urged it to take action to safeguard the safety, security, and well-being of its minority communities and sites of worship.

Additionally, he stated that since 2014, New Delhi has successfully negotiated the release and return of more than 2,700 Indian prisoners held in Pakistan. India has also asked for early consular access, the release of the remaining Indian prisoners detained in Pakistan, and their repatriation. According to Muraleedharan, the government places a great priority on the problem of Indians in Pakistani jails and offers the fishermen every assistance available in an effort to secure their quick release.
