India-Pakistan Exchange Lists of Nuclear Installations in Decades-Long Tradition

New Delhi: In adherence to a longstanding practice spanning over three decades, India and Pakistan engaged in the annual exchange of lists detailing their nuclear installations on Monday. This exchange is governed by a bilateral pact, prohibiting both nations from targeting each other’s atomic facilities.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) disclosed that this communication occurred simultaneously through diplomatic channels in New Delhi and Islamabad.

Under the agreement on the prohibition of attacks against nuclear installations and facilities, signed on December 31, 1988, and enforced since January 27, 1991, both countries are obligated to share information about covered nuclear installations on the first of January each year.

Despite strained relations, marked by tensions over the Kashmir issue and cross-border terrorism, this marks the 33rd consecutive annual exchange since the inaugural one on January 1, 1992, reinforcing a diplomatic tradition.
