Video Shows First Tsunami Waves Crashing into Japan City After Devastating Earthquake

Tokyo: Japan experienced a powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake today that struck the Noto region in Ishikawa prefecture at approximately 4:10 pm local time. The quake, followed by a series of subsequent tremors, has triggered tsunami warnings along the coast, prompting urgent evacuation orders. Videos circulating on social media purportedly show the first waves hitting Toyama City in Toyama Prefecture, though their authenticity remains unverified.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported waves reaching a height of 1.2 meters at Wajima port in Ishikawa prefecture. The seismic activity began with a 5.7 magnitude tremor at 4:06 pm, followed by a staggering 7.6-magnitude quake at 4:10 pm, marking the epicentre of the crisis. The US Geological Survey recorded a rapid succession of quakes, including a 6.1 magnitude quake at 4:18 pm, a 4.5 magnitude tremor at 4:23 pm, a 4.6 magnitude quake at 4:29 pm, and a 4.8 magnitude quake at 4:32 pm. A subsequent 6.2 magnitude earthquake further intensified the situation, according to the US Geological Survey.

Authorities are actively responding to the unfolding crisis, issuing tsunami warnings and evacuation orders. The situation is being closely monitored as Japan grapples with the aftermath of this powerful earthquake and the potential threat of hazardous tsunami waves.
