ISRO Chief S Somnath Was Diagnosed with Cancer On Day Of Aditya-L1 Launch

New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chief S Somnath revealed in an interview that he was diagnosed with cancer on the same day India’s Aditya-L1 mission launched into space. Somnath disclosed that growth was discovered during a routine scan conducted on the same day as the Aditya-L1 launch.

The diagnosis came as a shock to Somnath, his family, and colleagues, as they rallied around him during this challenging period. Following the revelation of a growth in his stomach during a routine scan on September 2, 2023, Somnath underwent further tests in Chennai, confirming the presence of a hereditary disease. Following diagnosis, he underwent surgery and chemotherapy.

Despite initial uncertainties about his prognosis, Somnath displayed remarkable resilience, resuming his duties at ISRO just four days after his hospital stay. He emphasized the importance of regular checkups and scans in his ongoing recovery journey but expressed confidence in his complete cure.
