IT Raids at BBC Offices in Delhi & Mumbai Continue For 2nd Day

New Delhi/Mumbai: The Income Tax department’s raids of the BBC’s offices in Delhi and Mumbai continued overnight and are still ongoing.

I-T personnel are reportedly creating copies of the organization’s financial information on paper and in electronic form, according to officials on Wednesday.

“Foreign taxation, TDS (tax deducted at source), and other factors could be involved. There could be a number of problems. Raids are still underway,” a source in the tax department stated that after the raid is complete, a clear image will become apparent. Inspection of a business location is part of a survey under I-T regulations.

As part of an inquiry into alleged tax evasion against the British broadcaster in India, the tax department began the action on Tuesday at the BBC’s offices in Delhi, Mumbai, and at least two other locations that were connected to those offices.

I-T representatives appeared at the broadcaster’s offices in the two metro cities at around 11 AM on Tuesday. The BBC’s New Delhi office, which is located on two floors of a high-rise on KG Marg in the heart of Delhi, was cordoned off by police. According to officials, several of the BBC employees’ laptops and mobile phones were also seized as part of the operation and duplicated.
