ED arrests Kerala CM’s Ex Principal Secy in Housing Scam

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s former principal secretary M. Sivasankar was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Life Mission scam.

Reportedly, the suspended IAS officer was interrogated by ED for three days before he was shown to be arrested. Life Mission is a Kerala government project to provide homes to the homeless.

Around 140 families in Thrissur’s Wadakkanchery region were to get houses under this project. For it, around Rs 20 crore was to be spent. Out of this amount Rs 14.50 crore was granted by the Red Crescent via the UAE consulate. The Red Crescent is a non-profit organization supporting humanitarian work.

UNITAC Builders got the contract for the construction of houses in Thrissur under the Life Mission project. But UNITAC managing director Santhosh Eapen alleged that all the accused in the Life Mission Scam had received a bribe worth Rs 4.48 crore for the project. The life mission complex at Thrissur came under suspicion.

Following it a probe into the case was ordered by the government.

Two accused in the case, Swapna Suresh and Sarith PS made allegations against Sivasankar that he had a role in this. There is another accused in this case in this case named Sandeep Nair.
