ED Attaches Assets Worth over Rs 1 Cr of Ex-Panachayat Samity Chairman of Sonepur

Bhubaneswar: Enforcement Directorate (ED) attached properties worth more than Rs 1 crore of Pradeep Kumar Satapathy, former Chairman of the Sonepur Panchayat Samiti, in connection with a money laundering case.

The ED attached movable and immovable assets of Satapathy under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

The ED registered a case of money laundering against Satpathy on the basis of an FIR lodged by the Vigilance Department of Odisha against Satapathy under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.  Satpathy was alleged to have abused his official position to amass assets amounting to Rs 1.1 crore. His assets were found to be disproportionate to his known sources of income from January 1, 1997, to January 1, 2010.

Satpathy was the Sarpanch of Khari Panchayat of Subarnapur district, Chairman of Sonepur Panchayat Samiti, and Vice Chairman of Sonepur Panchayat Samiti during that period of over 13 years.
