Dalit Man Killed For Fetching Water From A Handpump

Jaipur: A Dalit man was allegedly beaten to death by three individuals for filling water from a handpump in the Soorsagar area of Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

The deceased, identified as Kishanlal Bheel (46), was thrashed to death by Shakeel, Nasir, and Bablu of the same locality.

Ashok Bheel, the victim’s brother narrated the ordeal that the Dalits of the locality face every day. “Dalits are allowed to fetch water only during the night and if they tried to get water during the day, their pipes were cut by the accused.

He also alleged that the accused prevented them from taking Kishanlal to the hospital even though he was seriously wounded yet alive.

He could be taken to the hospital only after the police reached the spot. However, by the time they reached the hospital, the victim had passed away.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family staged a protest outside the mortuary demanding justice for the victim. They wanted immediate arrest of the accused.

Police have so far nabbed all the accused persons under appropriate sections of law and have launched a detailed probe into the same.
