Maharashtra Farmer Uses CCTV Camera to Protect Tomatoes Amidst Skyrocketing Prices

Aurangabad: Amidst surging tomato prices and high demand, a farmer from Maharashtra has taken a proactive step to safeguard his valuable crop. Sharad Rawte, the farmer from Shahpur Banjar, has installed a solar-powered CCTV camera on his 5-acre farm, covering 1.5 acres of tomato cultivation. This move comes after a recent incident of tomato theft, which prompted him to protect his remaining ripening crop.

The skyrocketing prices of tomatoes, ranging from ₹100 to ₹200 per kilogram, have made them the most sought-after vegetable in the country. The prevailing rates have allowed a crate of 22-25 kg of tomatoes to be sold at an astounding ₹3,000, presenting a significant opportunity for farmers like Rawte.

Faced with the prospect of losing more tomatoes to theft, the farmer invested ₹22,000 in a CCTV camera to monitor his plantation. The camera’s remote accessibility on his phone ensures that he can keep a constant watch on the farm and respond to any potential threats promptly.

This proactive approach not only protects the farmer’s investment but also showcases the adoption of technology in agriculture to address modern challenges effectively. By embracing digital surveillance, Rawte is confident that his efforts will yield a substantial income, with an estimated potential earning of ₹6-7 lakh from his tomato cultivation.
