Noida Imposes Rs 10,000 Fine On Owners In Case Of Pet Attacks

Noida: The Noida Authority has decided to impose a penalty of Rs 10,000 on owners in cases of pet dog or cat attacks starting on March 1, 2023. This decision was made in response to the rise in dog-bite incidences in the city and surrounding areas over the past few months. The Noida Authority also made the decision to hold the owners accountable for the victim’s care.

The topic of recent stray dog and pet attacks was discussed at a board meeting convened by the Noida Authority on Saturday. Following the meeting, the Noida Authority issued an order stating that starting on March 1, 2023, in the event of any adverse incident caused by a pet dog or cat, the owner will be fined Rs 10,000 and will be responsible for treating the wounded person or animal.

The Noida Authority has also offered comprehensive recommendations in the meeting to decide the policies in accordance with the Animal Welfare Board’s norms. Pet dogs and cats must be registered on the Noida Authority pet registration app by March 2023 per an order from the Chief Executive Officer of the Noida Authority. In the event that registration is not made, the owner would be liable to pay a fine.

Pet dogs must now be sterilised and vaccinated against rabies, and violators will be fined Rs 2,000 per month starting on March 1, 2023.

Construction of dog shelters for ill, enraged, or violent street dogs will be started with the approval of the RWA/AOA and village residents; the upkeep of these shelters will fall within the purview of the relevant RWA/AOA.

Further, the body also reiterated that it is the pet owner’s duty to clean up after their dog if it poops in a public area.
