BSF Jawan, 4 Civilians Injured As Pakistan Opens Unprovoked Fire At 5 Indian Posts in Jammu

Srinagar: A Border Security Force (BSF) soldier and four civilians sustained injuries as a result of unprovoked firing initiated by Pakistan Rangers at five Indian posts along the International Border (IB) in the Arnia and R S Pura sectors of Jammu on Thursday night. The firing commenced around 8 PM in the Arnia sector, with the BSF responding effectively to the unprovoked aggression. Several posts on both sides were involved in the exchange of fire, according to a BSF official.

The injured BSF soldier was promptly transported to the GMC Hospital in Jammu for specialized medical care, while sporadic exchanges of fire continued. It remains unclear if there were any casualties on the Pakistani side in response to the BSF’s retaliatory action.

Additionally, Pakistan Rangers fired mortar shells in civilian areas, causing panic among the local population. Areas such as Arnia, Suchtgarh, Sia, Jabowal, and Treva along the IB were reportedly affected by the shelling. Notably, residents of Arnia and Jabowal, particularly migrant labourers, were observed evacuating their homes, seeking refuge in bunkers in various border villages.

This incident marks one of several ceasefire violations that have occurred since India and Pakistan signed an agreement on February 25, 2021, to rigorously adhere to all ceasefire agreements along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and other sectors.
