PM Modi Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Terminal Building at Port Blair Airport

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated the new Integrated Terminal Building at Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The inauguration took place through video conferencing, marking a significant milestone in boosting the island’s connectivity. The construction of the state-of-the-art terminal building, valued at approximately ₹710 crore, will greatly enhance the airport’s capacity.

Spanning an impressive built-up area of around 40,800 square meters, the new terminal can accommodate approximately 5 million passengers each year. Additionally, a dedicated Apron has been constructed at Port Blair Airport, costing ₹80 crore, allowing for the parking of two Boeing-767-400 and two Airbus-321 aircraft simultaneously. The expansion ensures the airport can now accommodate up to ten aircraft at any given time.

Earlier in the day, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia unveiled a statue of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in Port Blair. The Veer Savarkar International Airport already offers connectivity to Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Visakhapatnam. Moreover, there are plans for further expansion to enhance its connectivity network.

The inauguration of the new Integrated Terminal Building and the additional Apron at Port Blair’s Veer Savarkar International Airport showcases the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and connectivity in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. These developments will not only benefit the local population but also facilitate increased tourism and trade opportunities for the region.
