Karnataka CM Race | Rahul Backs Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar Expresses Firm Aspirations: Reports

New Delhi: The Congress party in Karnataka finds itself at crossroads as the decision for the state’s Chief Minister position has sparked quite visible divisions within the party, with Siddaramaiah gaining an edge over DK Shivakumar, according to reports.

Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal are backing Siddaramaiah, while Shivakumar enjoys a good equation with Sonia Gandhi. Mallikarjun Kharge remains neutral and will consult before deciding. Randeep Surjewala is reportedly neutral as well.

Rahul Gandhi met with Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss the announcement of the next Karnataka CM. DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah arrived in Delhi to convey their aspirations to the party leadership. Both played crucial roles in the Congress party’s recent electoral success.

On the other hand, DK Shivakumar during his meeting with Kharge expressed his desire to become the CM, citing his contribution towards rebuilding the party. He stated it was his turn, and if denied, he would prefer to work as an MLA. Shivakumar also criticized Siddaramaiah’s past tenure, citing opposition from the Lingayat community.

The decision on the next CM rests with the Congress chief, who will consult with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Observers’ reports were submitted, and a lengthy meeting was held to discuss the CM selection process.

The Congress won 135 seats in Karnataka, surpassing the BJP’s 66 seats, while the JD(S) was reduced to 19 seats. The final decision on the Karnataka CM is eagerly awaited, given the differing views within the party.
