Rajasthan Reels Under Tension Following Karni Sena Chief Sukhdev Singh’s Killing

Jaipur: In a shocking turn of events, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, the prominent leader of Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, was assassinated at his Jaipur residence, plunging the state into turmoil. The brazen attack has ignited tensions and triggered protests across Rajasthan.

The incident occurred during a tea session at Gogamedi’s home, where unidentified assailants opened fire, fatally wounding Gogamedi. One attacker was killed in a retaliatory exchange with Gogamedi’s aides.

Rohit Godara, linked to criminal groups, claimed responsibility for the murder on Facebook, adding to existing animosity after Gogamedi filed a complaint against him. In response, Director General of Police Umesh Mishra promptly formed a special investigation team (SIT), offering a ₹5 lakh reward for information leading to the shooters’ arrest.

Gogamedi, with a history of legal issues, succumbed to gunshot wounds on his way to the hospital. One attacker was killed in a gunfight with Gogamedi’s aides. Protests erupted in Jaipur, Churu, Udaipur, Alwar, and Jodhpur, prompting appeals for peace from the police chief, emphasizing ongoing raids on potential hideouts.

Known for leading Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena since 2015, Gogamedi had split from Rajput Karni Sena, gaining prominence for protests against the 2018 movie ‘Padmaavat.’ The assassination raises concerns, casting a shadow over the state, particularly amid political changes post-BJP victory in recent elections.
