Suspicious Boat Containing AK-47 & Ammunition Near Maharashtra’s Raigad Coast Sparks Scare

Mumbai: After security forces captured a boat with three AK-47 rifles and bullets off the Raigad coast, Maharashtra was put on high alert on Thursday.

According to local police officials, no person was present in the boat but some arms, including an AK-47, and ammunition were found. Following the development, a team of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) was rushed to the spot.

Maharashtra Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis informed that the boat found belonged to an Australian woman, who abandoned it after engine trouble. Prima facie, there is no terror angle, but it is unclear why it was carrying arms.

The presence of the mysterious boat raised alarm bells as Mumbai had been targeted by Pakistan-based terrorists on November 26, 2008 by terrorists who had entered the city by sea route. Prima facie, there is no terror angle, but it is unclear why it was carrying arms.
