World Sports Journalists Day 2023: All You Need to Know

World Sports Journalists Day is observed globally on 2nd July every year. The day aims to acknowledge the work of sports journalists & to encourage them to do better at their work. Sports journalists help millions of people in the world to receive information on various sports.

In Sports journalism, the reporters focus on matters pertaining to sports. They work on various media platforms like digital, print, and television. Almost every local or national media organization is active in sports journalism.

It was in the early 1800s when a dedicated section for sports coverage was first introduced in the media business by the elite class. Later, middle and lower-class people also developed an interest in the column, making sports journalism a well-recognized profession. The first World Sports Journalist Day was observed by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) in 1994 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the organization. The tradition persists since then. The AIPS was established in 1924 with its current headquarters located in Switzerland.
