9 Dead, Several Injured as Tourist Bus Falls into 100-Foot-Deep Gorge in Tamil Nadu

Coonoor: At least nine people died and multiple others were injured after a tourist bus crashed into a gorge near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday evening.

The bus was carrying 55 passengers from Ooty to Mettupalayam when the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned. Among the victims were four women and a minor boy.

Local residents, police, and fire and rescue services responded quickly and rescued the injured passengers. Rescuers used ropes to access the toppled bus and provide assistance.

All injured individuals have been transported to Coonoor government hospital for medical treatment. Ongoing rescue efforts continue.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed his condolences and announced financial relief for the families of the deceased. Rs 2 lakh will be provided to each deceased person’s family, while Rs 1 lakh will go to those with severe injuries. Minor injury victims will receive Rs 50,000.

BJP State President K Annamalai also expressed his condolences and urged the Tamil Nadu government to ensure high-quality treatment for the injured.
