Mentally Ill Passenger Locks Self in Toilet on IndiGo Flight, Detained for Unruly Conduct

Patna: A 27-year-old man with special needs, Mohammed Kamar Riyaz, was detained on an IndiGo flight 6E 126 from Ahmedabad to Patna. The incident occurred due to alleged misbehaviour and unruly conduct onboard the flight.

Upon landing in Patna, Mr. Riyaz was immediately handed over to the local police. The airlines have filed a complaint against him for creating a disturbance and displaying inappropriate behaviour during the flight. Preliminary investigations, including the examination of medical documents and statements from his brother, who was also on the flight, suggest that Mr. Riyaz may be suffering from a mental illness.

Mr. Riyaz is a mechanical engineer and hails from West Champaran in Bihar. He had been travelling with his elder brother from Ahmedabad to Patna for medical treatment. Presently, he is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Patna to address his mental health condition.

The Patna Airport Police, led by Vinod Peter, SHO, will be monitoring Mr. Riyaz’s activities moving forward to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers and crew members on future flights.
