Aviation Ministry Issues Notices to IndiGo, Mumbai Airport as Video Shows Flyers Eating Food on Tarmac

New Delhi: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued show cause notices to IndiGo and Mumbai airport following a viral video depicting passengers stranded on the tarmac.

The incident occurred when flight 6E 2195 from Goa to Delhi was diverted to Mumbai due to low visibility conditions. The passengers, delayed for nearly 18 hours, were allocated a remote bay, hindering access to basic facilities.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia held a midnight meeting, blaming both IndiGo and Mumbai airport for not proactively addressing passenger needs. The ministry warned of enforcement action, including financial penalties, if satisfactory explanations aren’t received.

IndiGo responded, stating they are conducting an internal inquiry and will address the notice accordingly. Mumbai airport also faces scrutiny for failing to report the incident promptly. The ministry criticized the flight operation for disregarding passenger convenience, security norms, and operational considerations.

The viral video showed passengers dining on the runway, sparking outrage on social media. IndiGo cited low visibility as the reason for diversion, while Mumbai airport attributed the delay to unfavorable weather conditions. Another viral video involving an IndiGo flight showcased a passenger assaulting the pilot over a 13-hour take-off delay.
