Scrub Typhus Claims Another Life in Odisha’s Bargarh as Cases Surge

Bargarh: Scrub typhus cases are on the rise in Odisha, with one more fatality reported in Bargarh district, bringing the total death toll in the district to seven. The latest victim was a 48-year-old individual from Sohela locality in Bargarh, who succumbed to the disease while receiving treatment at a private hospital. This concerning development was confirmed by Bargarh District Public Health Officer (DPHO), Sadhu Charan Dash.

In response to the increasing number of scrub typhus cases, a central team has been deployed to assess the situation in Odisha, particularly in the western region. Yesterday, a six-member expert team visited the Sundargarh district, and today, they examined the situation in Bargarh district.

The central team’s itinerary includes visits to various districts in western Odisha to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the situation. During their visit to Bargarh, the team engaged in discussions with the district health department and is scheduled to inspect the laboratory facilities at the District Headquarters Hospital.

As of now, out of 1,775 samples tested in Bargarh district, 89 have returned positive for scrub typhus, highlighting the severity of the situation. Public health authorities are working diligently to manage and contain the spread of the disease in the affected areas.
