BJP’s Varun Gandhi Lauds Indira Gandhi For 1971 War Victory, Stirs Political Speculation

New Delhi: BJP MP Varun Gandhi has lauded former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for her leadership during India’s 1971 war against Pakistan.

In a statement, Varun Gandhi emphasized the importance of acknowledging the entire team’s contribution to victory and shared a letter from his grandmother to the then Army Chief General Sam Manekshaw. Commemorating the historic win that led to Bangladesh’s independence, he stated, “On this day, all of India salutes both these great Indian treasures.”

Gandhi’s remarks come amid speculation about his proximity to Congress, fueled by his absence from recent BJP meetings. In a noteworthy encounter last month, Varun Gandhi met his cousin, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, at the Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand. While both leaders downplayed the political significance, it triggered speculation about Varun Gandhi’s political intentions.

Earlier in September, Varun Gandhi criticized his own party’s government in Uttar Pradesh regarding the suspension of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital’s license after a patient’s death. Taking to X, he urged against letting resentment affect the welfare work.
