Congress Leaders Pay Homage to Indira Gandhi on 39th Death Anniversary

New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and other senior party leaders paid their respects to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 39th death anniversary at Shakti Sthal in the capital city on Tuesday.

Remembering her outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to empowering marginalized communities, Kharge said, “Indira Gandhi ji was a towering figure in Indian politics and a source of inspiration for generations to come.”

Rahul Gandhi, her grandson, fondly remembered her as his source of strength and pledged to protect India, for which she made immense sacrifices.

K C Venugopal, Congress General Secretary, referred to Indira Gandhi as the “Iron Lady of India” and emphasized the ultimate sacrifice she made for the unity and integrity of the nation. He also highlighted her significant contributions to social welfare, national security, and the overall progress of India.

Other senior party leaders who paid their respects included Ajay Maken, Arvinder Singh Lovely, and several members of the Congress Working Committee.

Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her own bodyguards on this day in 1984, a tragedy that remains etched in the memory of the nation.
