Veteran Singer Vani Jayaram Passes Away

Chennai: Legendary playback singer Vani Jairam passed away at her residence in Chennai on Saturday. She was 78.

The singer was awarded Padma Bhushan by the Government of India ahead of Republic Day 2023.

The news of her sudden demise sent shockwaves across the country. She was known for recording over 10,000 songs in her career.

Vani Jairam collaborated with some of the biggest composers across various industries and delivered evergreen chartbusters.

The talented singer has a number of songs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Tulu and Odia to her credit.

She has performed extensively in the country and across the world. It is to be noted that she has won National Film Awards for Best Female Playback Singer thrice.

She has also received State awards from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, and Odisha.
