6 Deaths in Rioting After Imran Khan’s Arrest in Pakistan; PTI to Appeal Pak SC Against Arrest

Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehrreek-e-Insaf (PTI) gave a call for a nationwide ‘shutdown’ on Wednesday to protest against the arrest of the former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Widespread arson and rioting were reported across Pakistan as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters took to the streets to protest Imran Khan’s arrest. As many as six deaths were reported in relation to the recent violence in Pakistan. Out of them 1 death has been reported from Quetta, 1 in Faisalabad, 1 in Chakdara Swat and 1 in Lahore. Several others were injured.

In Karachi, demonstrators clashed with the police, pelted stones at police vehicles, and tore down street lights.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry said the party will approach the Supreme Court on Wednesday to challenge the Islamabad High Court’s upholding of party chairman Imran Khan’s arrest.

Supporters of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan blocked the main Quetta Airport Road to protest against his arrest. A firing incident took place in the PTI rally, The Express Tribune reported.

Imran Khan was arrested outside Islamabad High Court by Rangers on the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) warrant in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi and others are alleged to have gained large patches of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, which reportedly caused a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer.
