6 Drown in Swampy Pond in AP’s Nellore

Hyderabad: Despite being swimmers, six men drowned in a swampy pond in Toderu village in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district as their boat capsized on Sunday evening.

The deceased persons were part of a 10-member group that had entered the pond aboard a boat on Sunday. Only four of them managed to save themselves following the boat capsize.

Ironically all the deceased persons knew how to swim. But they got stuck in the deep swamp under the water. The deceased were Alli Srinath (18), Prasanth (28), Raghu (24), Balaji (18), Kalyan (25), and Surendra (18), police sources said.

Police said the men took away the boat without informing the caretaker of the pond. These 10 persons went into the pond in a country boat made of iron used to feed fish.

The boat capsized while trying to take a U-turn and all of them jumped into the water. But the bed of the pond was too slushy because of which six ill-fated persons got stuck in the mud under the water.
