6 Killed by Asphyxiation Caused by Mosquito Coil in Delhi

New Delhi: Six members of a family died due to suffocation caused by carbon monoxide gas produced by burning mosquito coil in the Sashtri Park area of Delhi. They were found dead in their house. The deceased including a toddler, suffocated to death after an overturned mosquito coil sparked a blaze in the house. Their death is suspected to be due to asphyxiation caused by the overnight burning of mosquito repellant while they were sleeping.

Two other family members sustained severe injuries in the fire.

Police have seized the bodies and sent them for autopsy. The victims were sleeping in a closed room without any ventilation with a mosquito repellant coil burning inside throughout the night. They inhaled carbon monoxide produced as a result of the overnight burning of mosquito repellant while they were sleeping, said DCP North East district of Delhi.
