60 Injured by Bulls during a JalliKattu Event Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Around 60 persons were injured during a Jallikattu event at Avaniyapuram in Madurai of Tamil Nadu. Around 20 of them sustained serious injuries.

The seriously injured were admitted to Madurai’s Rajaji Hospital. According to the Madurai district administration, no casualties were reported. Eleven of the injured were still under treatment in the hospital on Monday.

These people were injured during a Jallikattu event organized in Avaniapuram of Tamil Nadu’s Madurai district on Sunday

District administration claimed that all arrangements were made to ensure the safety of participants as well as spectators.

Jallikattu is also known as ‘Eru Thazhuvuthal’ and ‘Mancuvirattu’. This event is part of the Pongal celebrations and is organized on the day of Mattu Pongal.

Jallikattu is a bull-taming sport. In it a participant has to grab a bull by its horns and tame it. The unruly bull obviously tries to attack and throw away the person trying to overpower it.

According to sources, Jallikattu events are planned to be held in Palamedu and Alanganallur on Monday and Tuesday. Winners of Jallikattu events are rewarded with two-wheelers, clothes, jewels, and money.
