8 Killed, 11 Rescued as Cold Storage Roof Collapses in UP

Lucknow: At least eight persons died while 11 were rescued after the roof of a potato cold storage collapsed in the Chandausi area of Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams started the rescue operation at the accident site. Till now they have rescued 11 persons from the debris. The search is on for other survivors.

Some people are still missing. Sniffer dogs of NDRF are being used to search the people trapped in the debris.

According to police sources, an FIR has been registered against the owners of the cold storage and two others. UP police have also detained four persons for interrogation. The main accused persons are absconding.

The real reason behind the sudden roof collapse is yet to be ascertained. The incident happened around 11.30 am on Thursday.

As per the officials, the owners of the cold storage were identified as Ankur Agarwal and Rohit Agarwal. They have been booked under section 304.

An ADM-level inquiry is being conducted in this matter. The part of the cold storage that collapsed was constructed some time ago and it was not constructed following the laid down standards, locals alleged.
