Ahead of PM’s US Visit, India Clears Deal to Buy American Predator Drones

New Delhi: Ahead of PM Modi’s US visit, the Indian Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on Thursday approved the deal to acquire Predator drones from the United States of America.

The acquisition proposal now needs to be cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Security after official procedures.

Predator drones are manufactured by General Atomics of the US. They were quite successful in fighting Taliban and ISIS terrorists.

These high-altitude long-endurance drones are armed with strike missiles that can strike enemy targets with pinpoint accuracy.

India is expected to use these drones for long-range surveillance along the borders and the sea around the country.

Through this recent deal, the Indian Navy will get 15 drones for surveillance operations. They will also be used in border areas.

On Wednesday, news agency Reuters reported that the Biden administration is pushing the Indian government to give a nod to the deal ahead of PM Modi’s visit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the US from June 21 to 24.
