Ailing Female Elephant Dies in Odisha’s Ganjam Dist

Berhampur: Another wild elephant died in Odisha. But this time the wild pachyderm died of some disease rather than at the hands of any poacher. The deceased animal was a female wild elephant, which was located in ailing condition near Lengada village under Ghumusara forest division in Ganjam district around five days back. The ailing female elephant died on Wednesday, forest officials informed.

All arrangements had been made for the treatment of this ailing wild elephant. A team of veterinary experts from Nandankanan Zoological Park had reached the spot to treat the animal. As per the treating veterinary doctors, the elephant had some serious infection in its mouth. Because of it, the ailing elephant was unable to eat anything.

The lack of food had made the elephant too weak. So, the animal did not respond to medicines administered by veterinary experts. The elephant died in the wee hours of Thursday. Its carcass will be buried after autopsy.
