Army Major Detained for Assaulting Cops Inside Police Station in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: An Army major identified as Gurubant Singh, posted with the 22 Sikh regiment in Calcutta , was detained by Odisha police on the charges of assaulting four policemen inside a police station at Bharatpur on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

According to reports, the Army major and his girlfriend rushed to the police station when some miscreants misbehaved with them while they were returning home after dinner. They lodged a verbal complaint and urged the police to catch the culprits.

But the police personnel insisted that, as per the law, the complainant should first file a report. Apprehending that the delay caused by the filing of written complaint would enable the culprits to escape from the spot, the Major insisted that the police rush to the spot first. This led to an altercation between the police and the Army officer.

According to reports, infuriated over the police behaviour, the Major allegedly attacked cops inside the police station and injured four constables. It is alleged that a female sub inspector was bitten by the Major’s girlfriend. A case has been registered in this connection.

The Major has been sent for a medical test as the police alleged that he was in an inebriated state while he came to the police station.
